TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCJB) - A new Florida law is changing how child care centers are regulated, aiming to cut costs for families while keeping kids safe.

Nearly 100,000 licensed child care providers across the state are now eligible for fewer state inspections, but only if they have a clean record.

Supporters said the law will reduce unnecessary oversight, helping centers focus more on kids and less on paperwork.

“We’re asking the Department of Children and Families to laser-focus on things that help kids and families,” said State Rep. Fiona McFarland, (R) Sarasota, who helped push the bill forward. “The hope is this will lower costs so parents like me aren’t paying more in tuition for child care than we are in a mortgage.”
