GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The city of Gainesville unanimously approved the rezoning of a 5.8 acre area beside depot park for the installation of a rock climbing gym.

The area was a former RTS facility that is now used as an overflow parking lot. The Knot Climbing is expected to build a new rock-climbing gym there once the area is rezoned from a public service and public facility zone to an industrial zone.

“To make it useable for the purposes they want to use it for, which is building a a rock climbing gym, an Olympic quality rock climbing gym, and some other recreational amenities there. It needs to not be zoned public facility, public service because it’s privately owned now,” says Mayor Harvey Ward.
