A brush fire temporarily slowed down traffic on Interstate 95 in Westport on Friday afternoon as firefighters battled the blaze.

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a brush fire on I-95 South between Exits 19 and 18 around 12:21 p.m. on Friday, according to Assistant Chief Brian Meadows of the Westport Fire Department.

Fire units arrived at the scene and reported an active brush fire alongside the highway that was “rapidly spreading” due to the terrain and wind, Meadows said.

Additional resources were requested as a Wesport engine attempted to access the fire from Sasco Creek Road. The Fairfield Fire Department responded to I-95 and Sasco Creek Road to provide additional resources, according to Meadows.
