The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced plans to rescind the 2001 Roadless Rule, changing the way America's national forests are managed, including over 760,000 acres in Dixie National Forest.
The Roadless Area Conservation Rule restricts logging and road building across 58.5 million acres — approximately 30% — of national forest lands. There are over 8 million acres of national forest system lands in Utah, more than 4 million of which are inventoried roadless areas managed under the rule, according to the U.S. Forest Service . There are currently 769,907 acres of inventoried roadless areas in Dixie National Forest.
