ELMORE, Ohio —

After 82 year, U.S. Army Sergeant Howard Hasselkus is finally home.

Hasselkus served in World War II in the Philippines. In 1942, he was part of the Bataan Death March. Family said he survived this, but later died at a prisoner of war camp and was buried in a communal grave.

After years of effort from family, his remains have now been brought back to Elmore.

The journey to bring him home started around 10 years ago.

"We got an email, my father did, from the military asking if would like to donate DNA to find his brother," Jason Hasselkus said. Jason Hasselkus is the veteran's nephew.

Jason Hasselkus said his family has always remembered his uncle, even though many of them had never met him.
