MORGANTOWN – A scan of the field during Friday morning’s West Virginia football practice revealed some good news, in the form of a new number on the turf – No. 23.

That number is assigned to running back Cyncir Bowers, a transfer from Iowa Central Community College who had missed the previous nine days of WVU’s preseason camp because of an injury. He was practicing on Friday, though.

The addition of Bowers helps a perilously thin Mountaineers backfield, in which only Jahiem White and Diore Hubbard have been healthy enough in recent days to fully participate in practice.

During Friday’s session, which was limited contact and conducted only in “shells,” White, Hubbard and Bowers were involved in the workouts. Two other running backs, Kannon Katzer and Clay Ash, were also on the field, but
