MINNEAPOLIS — This summer, extreme heat, storms, and poor air quality have made life even more difficult for those experiencing homelessness in the Twin Cities.

Darius Jones knows this firsthand. Just three months ago, he found himself living outside for the first time.

“This is a first for me. I’ve never had a July or August like this,” Jones said. “I had to endure outside sometimes.”

He’s grateful for assistance from Catholic Charities Twin Cities, a service that has provided shelter and relief from the elements.

“I’ve been blessed enough to have Catholic Charities in my life, places like this to seek refuge,” he said.

Traditionally, summer allows people a respite outdoors. But this year, chief program officer Keith Kozerski says that hasn’t been the case for many.
