SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — On Thursday, Lutheran Services of Iowa (LSI) held a celebration, marking the milestone of 191 refugees across the state becoming self-sufficient.

LSI is a nonprofit human services agency whose federal funding was cut in January. At the time, LSI was working to integrate all 191 across the state. Since then, LSI has relied on community support from across Iowa for funding. Of the 191 refugees, 36 were located here in Sioux City.

"They're from around the world and were vetted by the U.S. government," said Director of Immigrant and Refugee Services at LSI, Nick Wuertz.
