MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WSFA ) - A federal court has come to a ruling regarding Alabama’s congressional map.

A three-judge panel in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama ruled Thursday that Alabama must use the congressional map that created a second majority-Black district.

The ruling says the map should stay in place until regularly scheduled redistricting following the 2030 census.

The current map recently allowed Alabamians to elect a second Democrat, Shomari Figures, to the U.S. House of Representatives, when it was first used in the 2024 election cycle.

WSFA 12 News has reached out to Figures’ office for comment on the latest ruling and received this statement:
