Updated Friday, Aug. 8, 6:45 p.m.: The Dekalb County government released a statement saying the active shooter situation is contained and there is "no active threat to the public at this time."

" We are asking all residents and members of the campus community to remain indoors as a precaution while the investigation continues," the 6:37 p.m. statement continued.

DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson also released a statement:

“My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by today’s incident on the Emory campus. I am grateful for the swift and coordinated response from our law enforcement agencies and first responders. We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available. I urge everyone to stay alert, remain indoors, and follow official
