SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY, Pa. — A quiet country road changed into a crime scene in an instant.

"I thought it was firecrackers at the beginning, but then when I saw the smoke coming out of the gun, I said to myself, 'This is not firecrackers, this is him downright shooting at cops and trying to kill him,'" said David Carr of Hallstead. "Whiz, that's all I heard was woosh, and then hearing the bullet go through the window and past my head."

David Carr was there the moment a gunman unloaded on two Pennsylvania State Troopers, near Thompson Township, Thursday morning. Carr was traveling along Route 171 when the first shots were fired.
