One of the North Bay Canoe Club’s best-known BCC’s homegrown athletes, Nancy Olmsted, represented Canada at the World Masters Canoe Championships, held from July 29–31, 2025, in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal. Competing at this elite level brought back vivid and positive memories for Olmsted, who began her paddling journey as a youth at the NBCC. The event offered a rewarding opportunity to return to the world stage among passionate and high-level athletes from around the globe. Canada was strongly represented by a large and enthusiastic contingent of athletes, ranging in age from 35 to 82. Among the most senior competitors were Bill Kay (81) and Bob Lobban (82), who raced in the C1 and C2 events, respectively.
