COLUMBIA, S.C. — After eight years of cones, detours, and delays, drivers in northeast Richland County are finally getting some relief.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced that all lanes of Hardscrabble Road are now open to traffic. The major milestone comes after a long-awaited road-widening project that began in 2017.

“We had some delays, but we are excited that the lanes are back open and ready to complete the project, and we really appreciate the public's patience as we completed this project,” a crew member on site said.

For many drivers, the change is immediate and welcome.
