HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond fathers held a free event at Dorey Park in Henrico on Friday to raise awareness about the importance of strong role models in combating youth violence.

That’s how the first Dedicated And Devoted (D.A.D.) family picnic was born.

“Dedicated to our kids, devoted to God and our programs,” Dedicated And Devoted (D.A.D.) Founder Marcus Taylor said. “There’s been a lot of violence, a big rash of violence. A lot of kids, young ages, are doing things to each other. You know, we just felt like that, fathers missing from the family, is a big part of that. It’s a big problem.”

Tirrell Moore came up with the idea for the father-focused gathering.

“It’s like 15 of us, and we didn’t know each other. We just got in the group chat and made it happen,” Moore said.
