ATLANTA ( WANF /Gray News) - An active shooter alert was issued earlier on Friday at the Emory University campus in Atlanta.

According to authorities, the shooting was first reported at 4:50 p.m. local time at 1600 Clifton Road NE.

The university issued an emergency alert on its website about an active shooter at the Atlanta campus at Emory Point CVS just after 5 p.m.

“RUN. HIDE. FIGHT. Avoid the area,” the university shared.

An officer from the Atlanta Police Department was sent to Emory University Hospital following the reported shooting, but did not survive his injuries.

Atlanta police later updated the situation, saying the lone suspected gunman was also dead and lifted the shelter-in-place around 6:30 p.m. Atlanta time.
