Discussion about raises for Santa Maria’s city manager and city attorney planned for Aug. 5, was moved to the Sept. 16 City Council meeting after council members said they want to better define the process for performance evaluations and compensation increases.

Councilmember Maribel Aguilera-Hernandez said that because the city manager and city attorney are directly supervised by the council, she wanted to have all five council members present to vote on the new package. Councilmember Carlos Escobedo was absent Tuesday.

Council members and City Attorney Thomas Watson discussed the performance review process going forward, with Watson saying that written evaluation forms provided to council members would be appropriate and follow common compensation standards and practices.
