GLENWOOD, Iowa -- The suspect in a western Iowa double homicide and home explosion has died.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation announced on Friday that 71-year-old Dennis Burnell had died at the Kansas University Medical Center Burn Unit. Burnell was taken to the hospital after suffering extensive burn injuries in a house explosion and fire on Wednesday.

Burnell was named as the suspect in a fatal-double shooting that occurred at his Glenwood home before it was engulfed in flames. According to Glenwood police, shortly after the shooting an explosion occurred, leading to the raging fire.
