AUSTIN, Ind. — School staff and city officials celebrated The Healthy Eagle Clinic opening on Friday. Scott County School District 1 Superintendent Trevor Jones says it pulls down barriers to a good education.
"It's hard to learn if you're not healthy," he said. "It's hard to learn if you have issues at home. So whatever barrier we can take away to make our students successful is a very good thing."
While the clinic is in the halls of Austin Elementary School, the clinic's nurses and nurse practitioners treat the district's more than 1,200 students of all grade levels.
Nurse Practitioner Jessica Kehl-West originally worked with the school on a telehealth program run by Well Care Community Health, but prefers the in-person visits Well Care provides now.
