State and federal Democratic lawmakers Friday expressed their support for redrawing U.S. House district lines across California as proposed by Governor Gavin Newsom in response to redistricting efforts by Republican-led states.

The newly revised maps for California’s congressional districts will be done by next week and released to the public, officials confirmed. California voters will then vote to either approve or reject the new district lines during a special election on Nov. 4.

Several elected officials, including California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, pledged their “iron-clad commitment” to prevent President Trump from “rigging” the system with the revised maps.
