Firefighters are responding to a massive fire that broke out at a former school building in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Atlantic City Fire Chief Scott Evans said crews were removing asbestos and clearing materials from inside the building. Desks and other debris were pushed to the center, where preliminary reports say the fire started. The stockpiled debris fueled the fire that has burned for more than four hours.

Evans said the fire is partially extinguished but continues to burn deep inside the stockpile. Officials plan to bring in emergency contractors to begin demolishing part of the building to fully extinguish the fire.
