(CNN) – A new government report is raising concerns about the typical American diet.

Ultraprocessed foods still make up more than half of the calories consumed by children and adults, even though the numbers have improved in recent years.

That’s from a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report published Thursday.

Ultraprocessed foods are usually high in calories, added sugar, sodium and saturated fat while being low in fiber.

They’ve also been linked to obesity and other conditions like cancer and diabetes.

They recommend that you try to add in more whole food whenever you can.
