The city of Santa Fe declared a state of emergency Friday, paving the way for it to request state aid for repairs to infrastructure damaged by heavy rainstorms last week.

“We got hit very hard by that last torrential downpour," Mayor Alan Webber said in a statement, referring to a July 31 storm that dumped at least 2 inches of water on the city overnight.

"As a result, serious damage was done to city infrastructure," the statement said.

City staff will conduct assessments of all damaged infrastructure and public facilities, and is requesting state money to help restore damaged infrastructure to "pre-disaster conditions," the declaration said.

The declaration lasts three days and may be extended by the City Council.
