CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - We've been dealing with sunshine and some pretty intense summer heat that is leading to drier conditions.
Earlier this spring, western Massachusetts received much-needed rainfall that alleviated previous drought conditions. However, the recent hot and dry weather has reversed this trend, leading to concerns about expanding drought conditions.
Meteorologist Chris Bouzakis noted that the high temperatures and humidity are stressing local vegetation, including grass and shrubs. "We've had a lot of sunny hot days and of course the high sun angle and these temperatures that we've been dealing with, stretches of 90-degree temperatures and high humidity, it really puts a lot of stress on the grass and the shrubs," Bouzakis explained.
