ATLANTA — Two Emory University employees described the chaos after receiving an alert about an active shooter on campus, as helicopters flew overhead and police swarmed nearby streets on Friday afternoon.

Reports began coming in at around 5 p.m. at Emory Point CVS on Emory University's campus. The Atlanta Police Department said a single shooter is dead, and an officer who confronted the suspect also died, sources said.

While the shelter-in-place order has been lifted, authorities are still telling people to avoid the area.

11Alive's Cheryl Preheim spoke with Reginald Gatson, an employee at Emory University, who detailed what happened immediately after receiving the alert. He described rushing into the nearest building, trying to get to safety.
