An active shooting incident has taken place at Emory University in Atlanta, a campus police spokesperson confirms to PEOPLE.
At around 5 p.m., Emory University issued an alert warning of an "active shooter" at the CVS on campus, urging people to "RUN, HIDE, FIGHT" and avoid the area.
In a separate message at 5:30 p.m., the Atlanta Police Department said its officers were responding to reports of an active shooter near 1760 Clifton Road in Atlanta.
About a mile away from campus is the headquarters of the CDC, which was also placed on lockdown after an email was sent to staff advising them to get to safety.
One police officer was injured in the shooting and taken to a nearby hospital, per NBC News and CBS .
