Katie Wilson widened her lead over Bruce Harrell in the latest drop of ballots Friday, pushing her share of the vote to over 50%. She now leads the incumbent mayor by 8.5 percentage points — a significant jump from the 1.5 points separating them on primary election night.

Crossing the 50% threshold is significant for any candidate in the primary and solidifies Wilson as the favorite heading into what’s likely to be a tough general election fight.

Other progressives also made big gains Friday as the reliable leftward tilt of late-arriving ballots showed itself.
