TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - New developments have emerged in the civil rights case involving the death of Raymond Mattia, a 58-year-old Tohono O'odham man who was shot by Border Patrol agents outside his home in May 2023.
Mattia's family is suing the federal government for excessive force and wrongful death.
Recently, an Arizona U.S. District Court judge dropped three charges against the agents involved. However, charges of excessive force, wrongful death and assault remain.
The shooting occurred at Menager's Dam, east of Lukeville, Arizona, on the night of May 18, 2023. Ajo Station Border Patrol agents responded to reports of shots fired.
