SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The city of Springfield celebrated African culture today with a flag-raising ceremony at City Hall, marking August 8th as African Community Day.

Mayor Domenic Sarno, alongside local leaders and the co-founders of the Unity Hearts Foundation, participated in the event to honor African culture, history, and tradition.

The ceremony featured traditional music, a flag-raising, and speeches from city officials and community members.

The Unity Hearts Foundation, a non-profit organization established in Springfield in 2023, aims to promote unity within the community. The event served as a prelude to the third annual African Community Festival, which will take place at Marshall Roy Park.
