TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - As students go back to class, Arizona still faces one of the worst teacher shortages in the United States.

It is difficult to keep teachers in their positions because they earn low salaries and cannot find affordable housing near where they teach.

In the Vail Unified School District, however, administrators, teachers, and students are working together to build a solution -- literally.

Students in a construction class at Cienega High build tiny houses for Vail teachers, so they can live near their students and save money.

Sydney Stickroth, or “Mrs. Sticky,” as her students call her, said the tiny houses program helped her continue teaching, even though many leave in the first or second year.
