BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — Outside of the Bloomsburg Area Middle School, a celebration is going on. It's to mark a new program in the middle school and Memorial Elementary School. Communities in Schools of Pennsylvania, an affiliate of the national Communities in Schools network, is launching its first-ever program in Columbia County.

"What we do is we put psych coordinators in school buildings. They work there full time, year-round, and they work with students to provide basic needs and remove barriers that would prevent them from learning, so whether that's hunger, homelessness, health, mental health," said Dr. Jessica Knapp, Communities In Schools Of Pennsylvania President And Ceo.

Knapp says it could be something as simple as coming to school with dirty clothes or missing hygiene products. S
