The Roanoke County School Board is considering an update to its bullying policy that includes a new definition of cyberbullying and additional measures of support for students that experience it.
Staff presented the updated policy to the board during a work session Thursday. In place of the previous definition, which was longer and more specific, the updated definition is one sentence, as follows:
“Cyberbullying means bullying that occurs through cell phones and other electronic devices or technology capable of accessing the internet.”
Roanoke County Public Schools proposed the definition change to match the commonwealth’s definition of cyberbullying, Deputy Superintendent Jamie Soltis said during the work session.
