BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - Sunny skies are here. With that in mind, it’s important to pay attention to our skincare habits, including the application of sunscreen.
In a study done in 2020, The CDC found that only 12.3% of men and 29% of women use sunscreen when out in the sun for over an hour.
Rebekah Underwood, Lead Medical Assistant at Beckley Area Medical Clinic speaks on the science behind the sun’s impact on skin.
“We always tell our patients, especially we [have] youths coming in for their sports physicals and stuff [that] sunscreen is important. Sunscreen, for adults, slows down the aging process because the UV rays [are] what breaks collagen and the elasticity in your skin, so applying sunscreen [is beneficial] every day, cloudy days [or] sunny days.”
Sunscreen also protects you from
