LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — The Las Vegas Bomb Squad has a new member on their team.

Just like the rest of the bomb technicians, this member had to go through extensive training to ensure public safety. Wilbur is a Labrador Retriever with skills that go far beyond just being cute.

When FOX5 visited the training center, we had to wake Wilbur up from his nap to see for ourselves just how skilled he is. His handler, Captain Ernie Mendoza tells FOX5 Wilbur is the first bomb detection dog for the Las Vegas Bomb Squad.

Mendoza hid an item in the field that would typically raise red flags if found. He tested Wilbur’s strong senses to see if he could find it.

“You will see a change in behavior and see him locate the device,” Mendoza said.
