SAN DIEGO — Red Sox catcher Carlos Narváez (sore knee) is not expected to play Friday and Saturday but he might return to the lineup Sunday, manager Alex Cora said.

“We feel like he’s making progress, so we’ll go from there,” Cora said before Boston’s game against the Padres on Friday .

A source said Narváez underwent testing Wednesday, and the hope was that it was something minor . In the visitor’s clubhouse at Petco Park, Narváez said he feels “way better.”

“I did baseball stuff outside,” Narváez said. “I threw from 90 (feet), 120. I just swung in the cage. ... All the baseball stuff was fine. I haven’t sprinted yet today but the baseball stuff was good, so that’s a good sign.”
