A New York appellate court has reduced the sentence of a teenager who admitted to collaborating with her boyfriend in the murder of her mother, WHAM reports.

Hannah Thomas, then 17, and her boyfriend Richard Avila, 16, killed 36-year-old Ottilia Piros in December 2020 at their home in Greece, New York.

According to police, Avila fired the fatal shots, and the couple fled the scene in Piros' car. They were arrested and charged with murder the following day during a traffic stop in Missouri.

In 2023, both Thomas and Avila pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and received 25-year sentences in state prison.
