Two people shot were shot Friday evening in downtown Birmingham, not far from a church known for its outreach ministry to the city’s homeless population .
The shooting happened between Church of the Reconciler and another building on 14th Street North between First and Second Avenues north.
The crime scene is just three blocks from the Birmingham Police Department Administration Building.
Police marked at least 18 shell casings in the area of the shooting.
The initial report was three people shot but police updated that to two.
One of the victims, a woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and the other, a male, was reported to be critical.
Both victims were transported from the scene.
