ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — A local Girl Scout troop, partnering with the Escambia County Natural Resources Conservation Division, has built a haven for bats.
According to a release from Escambia County, Cadette Troop 95023 undertook the project for their Silver Award, "one of the highest awards in Girl Scouting that includes a long-term project to address an issue’s root cause."
The artificial bat roost, located at the Perdido Bay Boat Ramp, will serve to increase bat populations. In turn, this will decrease mosquito populations and boost pollination for local flora.
The troop, as well as the Escambia County NRCD, hopes to see the public visit the house and learn more about how bats contribute to our ecosystem through their QR code.
