MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued passengers from a boat that was taking on water.

News 5 has learned that a 26-foot craft carrying eight people was in need of rescue after it began to sink and take on water in the Mobile River.

The Alabama Coast Guard received the call at 9:22 p.m.

Four passengers have been airlifted by the Coast Guard, while the other passengers remain on the boat.

Two vessels have been dispatched to retrieve the remaining passengers who have been told to put on life jackets and hold on to flares.

The craft was about a mile out from shore at the APM terminal. Due to the shallow depth in the area, there is a small portion of the boat that is sticking out of the water.
