A passenger was killed in a fiery, one-vehicle crash in Cape May County on Tuesday afternoon, but Good Samaritans were able to rescue the driver from the wreck, according to police and witness accounts.
Walter Chattin, 77, of Villas, was driving south on Route 611/Tyler Road near Fremont Avenue in Woodbine when his vehicle ran off the roadway to the left, struck a utility pole and overturned, according to New Jersey State Police.
The vehicle was engulfed in flames, police said. Emergency crews responded to the scene around 4:15 p.m.
