Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan defended his commitment to the U.S. chipmaker and its employees in a statement Thursday, hours after President Donald Trump made an extraordinary demand for his resignation.

Trump called Tan “highly CONFLICTED,” in a post on Truth Social, an apparent reference to his reported investments in Chinese companies, which U.S. lawmakers have scrutinized since he was appointed to lead Intel in March.

In the post, Trump called for Tan to resign immediately, saying there “is no other solution to this problem.” It was a noteworthy statement by Trump, who regularly lobs criticisms and threats at private companies but rarely attempts to interfere so directly and specifically in their inner workings.
