BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -The Shake Rag Historic District is an African American community founded in the 1800’s. In the year 2000, the district was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In the heart of Shake Rag on Saturday, Aug. 9 will mark the 6th annual Shake Rag Festival.

The festival honors the history and heritage of the community.

“Not only is it our history, but it’s Bowling Green’s history, so it’s something that needs to always remain and be remembered,” said festival organizer Shalana Page.

Page has been organizing the Shake Rag Festival for six years now. She created the Shake Rag Festival to celebrate and embrace the history of the district.
