INDIANAPOLIS — It's a first look at Mayor Joe Hogsett's 2026 budget. Some Indianapolis City-County councilors call it their Super Bowl.

Next week's monthly council meeting kicks off a high-stakes budget season, which allocates where taxpayer dollars are going. The spending plan impacts everything from road repairs to police staffing.

According to new documents, public safety would again take the largest share of money, with more than $698 million budgeted, up more than 6% from what was approved last year.

Public works is also seeing a boost. The department is seeing $257 million allocated, a more than 4% increase.

The city says the budget includes no tax increases and no significant cuts to programming or services.
