ELKO, Nevada (KMVT/KSVT) — The Idaho Bureau of Land Management has sent firefighting resources to aid the Nevada BLM in fighting two major fires.
The first blaze is the Jakes fire, which is burning 50 miles west of Battle Mountain and has burned 82,195 acres. The second is the Adobe Mountain Fire, 60 miles North of Elko. It has burned 10,668 acres.
The fires started last week. Lightning caused the Adobe Mountain Fire, while the cause of the Jakes Fire remains unknown.
Nora Halloran, the Public Affairs Specialist for the Nevada Bureau of Land Management’s Fire and Aviation Program, said the Nevada BLM requested mutual aid from the Idaho BLM to help battle the fires.
