PAJARO — The historic Porter Vallejo Mansion, home to the Pajaro Library for many years, is undergoing long-anticipated flood repairs and restoration.

Scaffolding is up and work has begun on siding, windows, waterproofing and insulation. Additional work on the roof, interiors and other repairs will follow. Monterey County officials estimate the project could take about a year to complete.

The 1850s-era building has been closed since the March 2023 floods, which caused water intrusion that damaged HVAC systems, a fire panel and essential infrastructure. The first-floor library was red-tagged, and the Monterey County Libraries Bookmobile has been serving the community as a replacement ever since.
