SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Firefighters are currently working on 39 large wildfires nationwide, with two of those large fires in Utah, and the total number of wildfires across the country is far above the ten-year average for this time of year.

According to the National Interagency Fire Center, there have been 42,670 fires in 2025 so far, and they have burned 3,613,023 acres across the country. This is more than 7,000 more fires than the ten-year average for this date, 35,620 fires, though there is some good news: the acreage for this year is below average. The ten-year average for acreage burned is 4,238,361 acres.
