LYNCHBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Authorities are investigating the in-custody death of an inmate at the Lynchburg Adult Detention Center.

Jonathan De’Keith Poe was taken from the center to Lynchburg General Hospital Aug. 1 because of a medical emergency. He was pronounced dead Friday morning, according to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority.

Poe was serving three life sentences after being convicted in May on charges of attempted murder of law enforcement and weapons charges.

Poe’s body will be taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy.
