Detroit – Did the Tigers need that? Oh my goodness they needed that, like a cool breeze on a hot muggy night.

Matt Vierling, dogged by injuries all season, certainly needed it, and delivered the winning three-run homer in the eighth. Riley Greene needed it, and delivered two hits and two sensational diving-sliding catches in leftfield. I dare say, Tigers fans needed it as much as anyone, to stem a growing fear.

When Vierling swung and the Comerica Park crowd of 35,290 stood and shrieked, it sure felt like more than just another night at the ballpark. The Tigers overcame a rare rough outing by Tarik Skubal and rallied for a 6-5 victory over the Angels, and for one night at least, all the good feelings came flooding back.
