One officer has died after responding to an active shooter situation at Emory University's Atlanta campus in Georgia on Friday.

Police responded to an active shooter near the local CVS at around 5:30 p.m. Eastern time. The shooter, who has not yet been identified, was also killed, according to Atlanta police. There is no longer an "ongoing threat," but people were told to avoid the crime scene as the investigation unfolds.

Emory University's Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response sent a message on Friday evening warning of an active shooter.

"RUN, HIDE, FIGHT. Avoid the area. Shelter in place," the alert said.

The university is less than a mile from the Centers for Disease Control headquarters, and the CDC sent out an alert asking employees to take shelter.
