Keep your eye on the sky during the next few nights, and you can catch a glimpse of the big August “sturgeon moon” as well as shooting stars spawned by the Perseid meteor shower .
The August moon will be 99% full as it rises Friday night, Aug. 8, and will turn 100% full during the pre-dawn hours on Saturday, Aug. 9.
The near-full moon will be rising in the east-southeastern sky shortly after 8 p.m. Friday before setting around 6 a.m. Saturday in the west-southwestern sky. (It will officially turn full at 3:55 a.m. Eastern time.)
The full August moon will start to rise about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the east-southeastern sky and set around 7:15 a.m. Sunday in the west-southwestern sky.
