Iaccomplished a bucket list holiday two weeks ago. It was nowhere particularly far-flung, South America and East Asia remain on my radar. But it's a nook of England that's perhaps the country's most treasured holiday hotspot, a go-to whether you're a camper or a lover of luxury hotels.

As my travelling companion said, Cornwall feels like "the end of world". A Great Western train from London goes quickly until it reaches Exeter.

And from then, the excursion into the West Country seems to move all the slower, getting deeper and darker until finally, you cross the bridge at Saltash with its river filled with fishing boats and you're at long last on the peninsula.
